Plano’s Global Ties: Embracing International Events and Developments

Plano, Texas, is increasingly becoming a hub for international events and corporate developments, reflecting its commitment to global engagement and cultural diversity.

International Events Enriching Plano’s Cultural Scene

In June and July 2026, the Dallas-Fort Worth area will host the world’s largest global soccer event, drawing international attention to the region. Plano is set to play a significant role in these festivities. On June 13, 2026, the city will host “Japan Day: Ultras Meets Plano” at McCall Plaza. This event, organized in partnership with Ultras Nippon, aims to unite soccer fans, music enthusiasts, and cultural communities for an evening celebrating the global spirit of the game. Attendees can look forward to live music, performances by Japanese musicians and DJs, a variety of food and drinks, and a unique cultural exchange connecting Plano and Japan through soccer culture.

Mayor John Muns emphasized the broader significance of the event, stating, “This event is about more than soccer. It’s about culture, community, music, and creating connections between people from around the world right here in Downtown Plano.” The event is free and open to everyone, with McCall Plaza easily accessible via the DART Red Line and Silver Line, facilitating participation from visitors across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Corporate Developments Strengthening Global Connections

In addition to cultural events, Plano is witnessing significant corporate developments that enhance its global ties. AT&T has announced plans to relocate its global headquarters to a 54-acre site in Plano, consolidating all its North Texas offices into the new campus on Legacy Drive. This move underscores a growing trend of businesses favoring North Texas suburbs and is expected to boost the area’s innovation and economic momentum.

To support this relocation, the Plano City Council approved a $20 million incentive package, marking the largest incentive package the city has ever offered to a private employer. The agreement requires AT&T to spend a minimum of $1.35 billion on construction, build at least 2 million square feet of office, amenity, and retail space, and employ 10,000 full-time workers at the property. The company is targeting partial occupancy in the new space as early as the second half of 2028.

Further enhancing its presence, AT&T plans to build a 280-foot tower resembling a mini version of Dallas’s iconic Reunion Tower at its new headquarters. This structure will serve as a communications antenna and symbolize the company’s deepening roots in the Plano community.

These developments highlight Plano’s strategic efforts to foster international connections through cultural events and corporate partnerships, positioning the city as a dynamic and globally engaged community.
